קראתי על בספר של אנדרו טננבאום (ממציא מיניקס):
Modern Operating Systems, 2nd ed
עמוד 768-769:
Like previous versions of NT, Windows 2000 comes in several product levels ... the differences between them all these versions are minor however, with the same executable binary used for all versions.... At boot time, the operating system checks the registry to see which version it is"
תבדוק בעצמך - תריץ strings, hexedit או regedit על הרג''יסטרי ותוכל למצוא את זה בעצמך (מפתחות בשם ProductSuite ו-ProductKey)
כמה סייגים:
א. יש כמה תוכנות בחלונות שבאות עם גרסת Server ולא גרסאות פשוטות יותר, אבל בעיקרון זו אותה מערכת הפעלה (הגיוני לא?).
ב. אי אפשר לשנות את הערך הזה מתוך חלונות. זה גם לא חוקי ומפר את ה-EULA.
